What should I do if am moving into a new property?

Request a 'move-in' (as opposed to a retailer transfer) if someone before you may have requested a disconnection.

It's not always strictly necessary but we recommend that you request a move-in if you are moving into a property that was occupied by someone else before.

If you don't tell us there will be a risk that the:

  • electricity connection will be de-energised on arrival,
  • electricity connection is scheduled for a disconnection, and/or
  • former occupant's final meter read was an overly low estimate.

We can resolve the above risks by requesting that your local network company send a technician to check the meter and ensure the property is energised. Please tell us at least 3 business days in advance so that we have sufficient time to do this for you.

Please note sending a technician will incur a network fee that we will pass through to you on your first bill. The exact fee will change from network to network.

If you are comfortable that none of the risks will arise you can request a simple 'retailer transfer' but any risk is yours as we cannot know whether a prior occupant requested disconnection.
