How do I disconnect from the electricity grid?
Ask our customer service team, and we will request a temporary disconnection or permanent abolishment.
You can temporarily or permanently disconnect (aka 'de-energise') your property from the electricity grid by advising our customer service team. They will then liaise with your local network company to have the work done.
How do I temporarily disconnect my property?
Let our customer service team know when you want to temporarily disconnect your property.
For safety and regulatory reasons you will need to answer the following two questions (at a minimum) before we schedule the work.
- Is there a life support machine on the premise?
- Is there any electrical work in progress now, or due to start between now and the de-energisation date?
If you have a smart meter we will remotely de-energise your property. If you do not someone will need to attend the site to conduct the process manually. Regardless of which occurs the network company will likely charge a small fee for the service, which we will pass this onto you.
How do I permanently abolish my connection point?
Permanently disconnecting your network connection is called 'abolishment.' In this case you should follow the same process as above, however, you will need to be clear that you want a permanent abolishment as opposed to a temporary disconnection.
