How can I get a storage heater quote?

To receive a storage heater quote, email the following information to save@ioenergy.com.au:

  • the size of the room(s) that you wish to heat,
  • whether you have solar panels and their rated output (kW), and
  • your address.

We will use this information to review your needs and reply with a quote for the model, accessories, and freight. If you are in South Australia we can also introduce you to a well-priced local electrician who can provide a separate installation quote.

Before proceeding, please note that prices for the heater units range from $1299 to $3799 exclusive of accessories, freight, or installation.

How do I decide whether a storage heater will suit me?

A storage heater is likely your best heating choice if installing an RCAC (Reverse Cycle Air Conditioner) and upgrading your property’s insulation is not an option.

The single best heating option is run a seven star RCAC, on a time-of-use electrical plan, within a well insulated property. This is because:

  • RCACs are the most efficient heaters available,
  • time-of-use pricing unlocks significant energy savings, and
  • insulated properties will retain the heat produced.

RCACs may not be a good option, however, if you have a poorly insulated home. This is because you will likely need to run them at times when electricity is expensive, rather than 'pre-heat' your home when electricity is clean and inexpensive.

Storage heaters are a good alternative in this instance. They are not energy efficient like RCACs, but they are extremely energy flexible. So if upgrading your property’s insulation is not an option a storage heater will heat your property on demand with the cleanest and cheapest energy that it could capture earlier in the day.

Please note we recommend against any heater that is not an RCAC or cannot time-shift your electrical use, even if it is cheaper to purchase upfront. This is because over the long term it will underperform financially and environmentally, due to being less efficient and unable to power itself from affordable renewable energy.

Which types of storage heaters do you offer?

We offer two models of Heatpac heater: the Heatboss and Heatwave.

The Heatboss is a silent convection heater that charges via your electrical network connection. It comes in three capacities (7.4 kWh, 9.9 kWh, and 19.8 kWh) which are suitable for heating rooms of 18, 26, and 52 square meters respectively.

The Heatwave is a quiet fan-assisted convection heater that can charge from both your electrical connection and rooftop solar panels. It has a capacity of 32 kWh and is able to heat an enormous 90 square meter room.

All of the models are highly intelligent and state-of-the-art heaters that can detect changed environmental conditions, adapt to your needs, and be controlled remotely via the internet.

Regardless of which model you choose, every model is ideally suited to iO Energy's time-of-use electrical plans. This is because you can charge them with low cost electricity in order to heat your property at a later time of your choosing—our residential Lightning plan will fully charge the enormous 32 kWh Heatwave for just $3.04!
