How can I dispose of my solar or battery system at end of life?

The answer to this question depends on how you procured it.

If you purchased the system yourself the responsibility for that rests with you. Alternatively, if you procure a battery through iO Energy's solar and battery subscription offer we will remove the system and handle the reverse supply chain management on your behalf.

Be aware that if you choose to purchase a solar system it will have very little resale value regardless of whether or not it has reached its end-of-life. Brand new solar panels tend to be more cost competitive than second hand solar panels because on installation they are eligible for rebates that reward adding new renewable generation to Australia's electricity supply. Your second-hand solar panels will not be eligible for that rebate as it would have already been claimed the first time.

On the other hand, battery systems can retain resale value because of the value in the commodity minerals within them. That said, the battery recycling industry is still in a nascent stage of its business life cycle and so it may not be readily available in your area, or easy to organise the reverse supply chain tasks.
